Everywhere I’ve turned lately I can’t seem to escape the ever popular political talk. It’s everywhere. TV, magazines, facebook, message boards, even my fellow bloggers. Everywhere I turn… there it is – someone trying to “sway” my vote to their candidate. I don’t have a problem with this really. I mean, I wanted to major in Political Science in college… and I *LOVE* getting out and voting. And I really do like election night coverage with the electoral college map as our forefathers had wanted for us.
But this just seems so different. Maybe it’s the economic spectrum that we are living in right now, financial crisis with mortgages, many losing jobs, and the stock market volatility. So many people are getting angry at the current president for the crisis that is before us, I am afraid they are forgetting Congress’ part in all of this too. It’s not just the president people! (Not that I am defending him either…) There are checks and balances in the system for a reason… so when you vote today – please remember to consider whether your Congressman/Congresswoman or Senator has been working for you as well.
A bigger part of this picture though was reminded to me a couple of weeks ago. It almost seems as though we are forgetting something very crucial. No matter who wins or loses the presidential election today… God is the same as He was yesterday, as He is today and as He will be tomorrow.
Jeremiah 29:11 –
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God knows what is going to happen. God is in control, just as he was 10 years ago when President Clinton was in office, same as 25 years ago when President Reagan held the post. He is the same as He was 100 years ago, when women and African Americans did not have the right to vote.
This is historic. Just get out and vote… let your voice be heard… and remember that no matter the outcome, God has a plan for our lives. I trust that and hope you do too.
